Banner Engineering introduces K50 Compact Touch Buttons Featuring a Flat Touch Surface

October 16, 2017

The exceptional immunity to false triggering and electrical noise offered by Banner’s next generation (Gen 2) K50 domed touch buttons is now available in a compact version with a flat touch surface. The K50 Compact Touch Button is easily actuated with the touch of a finger, hand or whole palm, requiring no physical pressure to operate. It is available in 1-, 2- and 3-color models.

Key Benefits

  • Space Saving Flat Surface: The low-profile (17 mm) design is ideal for use in panels, cabinets and other space constrained deployments, or where the preference is to have a touch button with a flat surface.
  • Improved Visibility in Very Bright Conditions: LED lights are concentrated closer to the window than domed models, making the indication brighter when viewed directly, even in sunlight bright conditions.
  • Excellent Immunity to False Triggering: Smart Electric Field Sensing technology provides Gen 2 touch buttons with excellent immunity to false triggering caused by the buildup of detergents, oils and other foreign materials as well as exposure to direct water spray. It also improves actuation performance with gloves.

Nook Industries New Modular Stepper Ball Screw Actuator and Stainless Steel Actuator

October 16, 2017

Nook’s modular ball screw stepper actuators are available in two styles, rotator and a captive. The rotator is the base unit for the captive unit, and the captive option adds an extruded body and keyed nut adapter with extension tube. This option also adds the ability to install travel limit switches. A rubber retract stop bumper is included to prevent accidental over-travel. The products also include an external ball bearing to absorb additional axial forces.

The modular ball screw stepper actuators come with either NEMA 17 or NEMA 23. The NEMA 17 option utilizes Nook′s 6mm x 1.25mm lead stainless steel ball screw assembly with the new 3-circuit ball nut assemblies. The NEMA 23 option utilizes Nook′s 10mm x 2mm lead stainless steel ball screw assembly with 3-circuit ball nut assemblies.

Nook′s mini stainless steel ball screw actuators are available in standard and enclosed options and feature exterior components made from FDA approved materials, such as 300 Series stainless steel. The enclosed version is designed to meet FDA guidelines capable of attaining the IP69K wash down rating.

Turck's New TBEN-L-RFID Module with PLC Capabilities

October 16, 2017

To streamline RFID integration and data processing in HF and UHF applications, Turck introduces its TBEN-L-RFID interface module with PLC capabilities via CODESYS. This compact module’s controller function can filter and pre-process RFID data and link to broader control operations, enabling high-speed dynamic or multi-tag RFID applications.

The TBEN-L-RFID’s design makes this module ideal for retrofitting RFID applications. An IP67 rating allows its use outside the cabinet, and actuators and sensors can be connected with HF and UHF RFID read/write heads simultaneously. These features reduce the installation and wiring efforts that are required for industrial identification solutions.

For additional flexibility, users can set the multiprotocol device to one of the Ethernet protocols – PROFINET, EtherNet/IP or Modbus TCP – via the CODESYS environment. The module offers 256 MB of flash memory and runs on an 800 MHz CPU, which accesses a 128 MB DDR3-RAM. It is connected via an M12 connector to the Ethernet layer, and power is supplied via a 7/8” connector.

The TBEN-Lx-4RFID-8DXP-CDS offers four RFID ports for HF or UHF readers, and eight universal DXP I/Os for sensors or actuators. With its full programmability and increased I/O, the device extends the capabilities of the TBEN-S-RFID module. The TBEN-S-RFID offers two RFID ports and four configurable digital I/O points for external devices, as well as an IP67 rating for seamless integration into existing applications.

Banner Engineering introduces A New Class of Long-Range Time-of-Flight Laser Sensors

August 10, 2017

L-GAGE® LTF Series Laser Sensors are now available in extended range models capable of reliably detecting and inspecting objects from up to 24 m away without the use of a retroreflector. The sensors achieve accuracy error of less than 1% of range and less than 25 mm of accuracy error when using a white target. They offer greater range capabilities than similarly priced time-of-flight sensors and are an affordable alternative to sensors with similar range capabilities.

Key Benefits

  • The extended 24 m range allows LTF Series sensors to be used to solve many applications that previously were primarily solved by more expensive sensors specifically developed for long distances.
  • Diffuse mode sensing eliminates the need for a retroreflective target, simplifying installation and maintenance – users can begin inspections more quickly with no downtime to service targets.
  • The two-line, eight-character display and pushbutton programming facilitate sensor setup and troubleshooting, and enable real-time distance measuring and application monitoring.
  • A durable IP67 housing, high ambient light immunity, and stable performance across temperatures ensure reliable performance in many challenging environments.
  • Models featuring IO-Link communication have powerful advanced features, including remote configuration, remote monitoring, and extended diagnostics, all of which simplify the maintenance and management of sensors deployed in distant and hard to access areas.

Turck introduces new Compact IP67 Programmable Controller with CODESYS 3

August 7, 2017

Turck has released its TBEN-PLC CODESYS 3 compact IP67 PLC for controlling small or modular machines. Thanks to its robust housing and high degree of environmental protection, the TBEN-PLC can operate directly on-machine, enabling the implementation of machine control without the need for a control cabinet. Using machine automation concepts and the use of pre-assembled cordsets reduce the cabling effort and simplify installation.

The wide variety of fieldbus communication protocols supported underlines the tremendous flexibility of the new TBEN-PLC; when used as a master/scanner, the device supports the industrial Ethernet protocols Profinet, EtherNet/IP and Modbus TCP, as well as Modbus RTU, CANopen and SAE J1939.

The TBEN-PLC can also be used as a remote IO device for Profinet, EtherNet/IP, Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU and CANopen networks, enabling use as a protocol converter or gateway. For example, the controller can function as a CANopen manager for a machine module and connect this local network to a higher level system communicating over Profinet. As part of the increasing digitization of industry, this enables existing machine controls to be integrated into modern closely networked, highly flexible production systems.

Two onboard serial ports can also be used to integrate RS-232/485 serial devices. The device provides eight configurable discrete I/O channels for the direct connection of sensors and actuators. When combined with Turck’s fieldbus technology products with IP67 protection, comprehensive machine control including safety technology can be completely implemented without the need for a control cabinet.
